Bombardier's services hit a $701M record as Q3 revenue rises 3%, and Wheels Up orders six Phenom 300Es

Bombardier delivered 33 jets in Q3 on $2.4B revenue, with services up 19% to a record $701M and a $22.2B backlog. Also: Wheels Up's first direct Embraer buy is six factory-new Phenom 300Es for H2 2027, and DOT's inspector general is auditing FAA helicopter air-tour oversight.

Bombardier's aftermarket is doing more of the heavy lifting than the production line. The Montreal OEM reported third-quarter revenue of $2.4 billion, up 3% year on year, on 33 aircraft deliveries, while Services revenue jumped 19% to a record $701 million. Backlog stood at $22.2 billion at 30 September, with a unit book-to-bill of 1.7x for the quarter, and the company raised 2026 free-cash-flow guidance to more than $1.3 billion.

The Bombardier numbers

Deliveries softened by one jet versus a year earlier: 12 Challengers and 21 Globals. Manufacturing and other aircraft revenue slipped about 2.5% to $1.668 billion, so the Services jump is what kept the top line growing. Adjusted EBITDA rose 7% to $382 million (16.1% margin), free cash flow for the quarter was $183 million, up 20%, and available liquidity was about $2.4 billion. Through nine months Bombardier has shipped 89 aircraft, four fewer than a year ago, but it still reaffirms guidance to deliver more jets in 2026 than the 157 handed over in 2025. An Investor Day is set for 18 February 2027.

Also this week

Wheels Up signs for six factory-new Phenom 300Es. On 5 November the on-demand operator announced a definitive agreement with Embraer for six Phenom 300E light jets, its first direct new-aircraft purchase from the OEM after nearly three years of talks. Deliveries are planned for the second half of 2027, with satellite Wi-Fi preinstalled. The jets will join a controlled premium fleet that already includes 29 Phenom 300/300E aircraft and 15 Challenger 300-series jets. Wheels Up says the order supports Signature membership demand after it finished fleet modernisation more than 18 months ahead of schedule; CEO George Mattson has also pointed to secondary-market buys remaining the primary growth path, with the OEM order locking in extra lift into 2027.

DOT opens an audit of FAA helicopter air-tour oversight. The Department of Transportation's Office of Inspector General announced on 3 November that it will evaluate how the FAA oversees commercial helicopter sightseeing, including at headquarters and selected Flight Standards District Offices. The review, requested by seven members of Congress, focuses in part on an NTSB-flagged loophole that lets some operators fly sightseeing trips as "aerial photography" under recreational Part 91 rules rather than the stricter Part 136 air-tour framework. The OIG cites at least 58 tour-helicopter crashes since 2008 (11 fatal), including the April 2025 Hudson River Bell 206 LongRanger accident that killed six, and a November 2025 Commercial Air Tour Aviation Rulemaking Committee report that found overlapping and sometimes contradictory requirements across rules.

What it means for brokers and operators

  • Large-cabin and Challenger availability stays tight. A 1.7x book-to-bill and a $22.2B backlog mean new Globals and Challengers are not loosening; plan lead times and expect firm OEM and preowned pricing into 2027.
  • Services capacity is a competitive lever. Bombardier's record aftermarket quarter, after its earlier US service investment, is another signal that downtime and MRO slots matter as much as airframe availability when you sell a trip.
  • Light-jet charter supply will thicken later. Six more Phenom 300Es into Wheels Up in H2 2027 add controlled light-jet capacity on a core charter type; watch for how that affects membership pricing versus open charter quotes on Phenoms.
  • Tour and Part 91/136 grey areas face more scrutiny. Operators and brokers touching helicopter sightseeing, doors-off or photo flights should expect closer FSDO attention while the OIG audit runs.
